Thursday Night Tide Baton Twirling Recreational Programs
We are offering our recreational classes Thursday nights from 5:30-6:15pm at St Columba Starting March 21st!
We are pleased to offer Baton twirling is a sport that combines dance and gymnastics while manipulating one, two or three batons at the same time. Twirlers will have the opportunity to perform at school events, parades and recreational level events around the city of San Diego!

The set system will begin with Basic Strut. \u00a0<strong>During lunch:<\/strong> Teams, Rhythmic Twirl IBTF\/Non-Sanctioned individual music events (Critique only), Show Twirl, High School Open, and Collegiate Freestyle and Downfield events.\r\n\r\n<strong>SPECIAL FEATURES<\/strong><strong>:<\/strong> <strong>(<em>SPECIAL AWARDS PRESENTED!!!)<\/em><\/strong>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li><strong><em><u>Miss Surfrider Open Pageant:<\/u><\/em><\/strong> <em>(Level determined by Twirl level);<\/em> Novice: Model in costume -No Interview, Basic Strut, Twirl; Beg. - Adv:\u00a0 Model in costume (Dress Optional for Adv) <em>with Interview<\/em>, X-Strut, Twirl.<\/li>\r\n \t<li><strong><em><u>Surfrider Cup:<\/u><\/em><\/strong> <em>(Level determined by Twirl level); <\/em>Non-sanctioned\/Gymnastics allowed<em>; <\/em>Time limit: Twirl: .30-2:30, 2-Baton: .30-2:00; 2-part competition of Twirl and 2-Baton. Men and Women combined; Routines from any organization may be used.<\/li>\r\n \t<li><strong><em><u>Surfrider High School Open:<\/u><\/em><\/strong> (<em>$100 scholarship awarded to Adv 1st Place Winner<\/em>); Non-sanctioned event open to all organizations; Gymnastics allowed; Open to 2024 9-12<sup>th<\/sup> graders, divided into Beginner <strong><em>(<\/em><\/strong>One who has never won 1st place in any similar event), & Advanced. Competitor utilizes 1- 4 batons and performs to own music; Timing is 2-3 minutes. <em>This event is a great way to get high school and\/or college tryout routines out on the floor! <\/em><\/li>\r\n \t<li><strong><em><u>Collegiate Freestyle:<\/u><\/em><\/strong> (<em>$100 scholarship awarded to 1st Place Winner<\/em>); Non-sanctioned event open to all organizations; Gymnastics allowed; Music of own choice; Time limit 1:50-3:10 minutes.<\/li>\r\n \t<li><strong><em><u>Surfrider College and High School Downfield<\/u><\/em><\/strong>: Non-sanctioned event open to all organizations; Gymnastics allowed; :30 sec routine across gym and back to center; SDSU college fight song music used.<\/li>\r\n \t<li><strong><em><u>Surfrider Queen<\/u><\/em><\/strong>: Model with interview in costume, short or long dress.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\nAGE DIVISIONS:\u00a0 <em>Individual events:<\/em> NBTA (0-6, 7-9, 10-12, 13-15,16+); \u00a0<em>Duet Twirl<\/em> (Sum of ages): NBTA (0-18, 19-24, 25-30, 31+); NBTA <em>Teams<\/em> (Average Age):\u00a0 Tiny Tot 0-5.9, Juvenile 6-8.9, Pre-Teen 9-11.9, Junior 12-14.9, and Senior 15+.
