Coach Catherine

Catherine graduated from the University of Washington in 2013 with a Bachelor’s degree in American Ethnic Studies, along with two minors in both Diversity and Dance. While a student, Catherine was an athlete for the Huskies from 2008-2013. She earned a 5-year athletic scholarship and was the face of the university and represented her school with pride and courage. During this time, she traveled around the world to compete and showcase her twirling and dance skills. In 2020, Catherine earned a Master’s degree in Coaching and Athletic Administration from Concordia University.  
Catherine is an accomplished choreographer, coach, mentor, judge, official staff member, and contest director for the National Baton Twirling Association (NBTA). Along with this work, she thrives on coaching and developing her own team, Tide Baton Twirling, a competitive youth twirling organization for individuals and teams. In addition to Tide, she continues to work as one of the coaches of the Las Vegas MOB Twirling Group, of Las Vegas, Nevada. While in Southern California, Catherine is the twirling coach and advisor for the San Diego State University Marching Aztecs, for 8 years. She is a very accomplished collegiate coach at SDSU, and her teams and programs there were nationally recognized and acclaimed.

While an elite competitive athlete, Catherine was a two-time USA World Team member, winning a gold medal at the 2006 World Championships in Eindhoven, Netherlands in the Junior Women’s Pairs category, and winning a silver medal in 2012 in Neuchâtel, Switzerland in the Senior Women’s X-Strutting category. Catherine also achieved the highest honor in collegiate competitive twirling, winning the 2011 College Miss Majorette of America! She was proud to bring that award home to The University of Washington and the Husky Marching Band! As a collegian, Catherine was honored to perform with the Huskies in China, France, Italy, Switzerland and on a cruise ship in the Caribbean and Cozumel!

Now let’s get into a team very close to Catherine’s heart, the Seattle Seahawks! She had the amazing privilege of performing half-time shows in 2014 and 2015, during their play-off runs for the Super Bowl! Catherine is also excited to share that she had the honor of performing multiple years on the red carpet for the Hollywood Christmas Parade; along with several nationally-televised commercials in both live and edited productions.

Catherine loves coaching her twirlers and developing them to twirl at the recreational level, local, national and collegiate levels.

Coach Lori

LORI WATTERS (Twirling Biography)
Lori is an elite NBTA Coach and Judge. She has been coaching and judging for over 40 years throughout the US and Canada! As a competitor, Lori held many New Jersey State and Eastern Regional Championship titles in Solo Twirl, Strut and 2-Baton, and was a national finalist in several events.
Lori earned a Presidential Scholarship for her twirling, and became Pennsylvania State University’s first Feature Twirler, 1974-78. During her time at Penn State, Lori performed in the Cotton, Gator, Sugar and Fiesta Bowls, as well as many alumni and recruiting events. In the summer of 1977, she was invited to perform with Fred Waring’s Young Pennsylvanians at Delaware Water Gap, PA. Lori was honored to be the featured act that entire summer!

In 2019, Lori was inducted into the Somerville High School (New Jersey) “Athletic Hall of Fame.” It was a very special privilege for her to be inducted as a baton twirler into one of the longest established and prestigious organizations in the nation!!!

Coach Courtney

Courtney Cormier started competitive twirling at the age of 7, earning 5 National titles in solo and duet events while participating in dance twirl, twirl team, and corps events with the Red Star Twirlers for most of her competitive career. In college, Courtney was a University of Tennessee Majorette, where she earned the spot of Feature Twirler. While studying at the University of Tennessee, she had the pleasure of twirling with 8 elite twirlers from across the nation on a team under the leadership of Missy Townsend. Courtney moved to San Diego in 2021 and is a resident in the Mira Mesa neighborhood.

Coach Bonnie Bruckner

  • has over 35 years of twirling and coaching experience.
  • competed as a twirler with the Daley Debutantes, winning Wisconsin State
    and National-World Parade Corps and Twirling Team Championships.
  • was coached by Marcy Daley Blaufuss and Betty Ann Gardetto.
  • was an advanced level competitive twirler in every NBTA solo category.
  • coached Wisconsin state champions in all NBTA solo categories, teams,
    and juvenile parade corps (2 years).
  • is a registered NBTA judge who has judged across the states and at AYOP.
  • has a Master’s Degree in curriculum and instruction from UNLV.
    (Coach Bonnie is not only proficient at coaching twirlers, but teaches as a profession as well)
  • is a middle school math teacher in Clark County, Nevada.
  • is a graduate of John Robert Powers with experience in runway and television besides coaching.
  • holds a second degree black belt in Chinese Kenpo Karate and also studied Tai Chi.
